Fox Chase Cancer Center Cooling Towers Replacement
Philadelphia, PAThe cooling tower replacement project upgrades existing MEP facilities to more modern units for the main hospital. These new units will supply the bulk of the condenser water to the chillers for cooling the hospital located in North Philadelphia. After the summer cooling season ended in late October, the existing towers were decommissioned, utilities were locked out, and demolition began. New towers and VFD drives with specialized direct-drive transmissions were pre-purchased by the HSC Preconstruction and MEP departments during the summer months to ensure timely delivery. Installation work on the six new towers, sweeper piping, and 24-inch-diameter condenser water lines continued throughout the winter on the roof of the existing hospital. The towers, along with new electrical feed panels, were operational in time for the summer cooling season.
