History

“For over three decades, HSC has nurtured trust and developed long-lasting partnerships.”

HSC Builders and Construction Managers was founded in 1988 as Health Sciences Construction Group specializing in construction management services to healthcare, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical clients. The company was founded by Jay Heim, a former pharmaceutical corporate engineer. He observed that owners relied on construction managers to execute their large capital projects. But Jay knew that the same high level of expertise was also needed for smaller endeavors, too. Therefore, he started his company to fulfill the niche of those overlooked smaller projects. Jay instilled his personal sense of pride, along with his understanding of the special demands of these industries, into every project the company has undertaken.

In 2000, Mark Heim took the helm as President and continued steering the company with the same excellent service. He had a strategic focus to further develop our long-term relationships. Since our highly skilled professionals were equipped to manage larger projects, HSC educated clients that we could deliver their multi-year large projects in addition to smaller work. Mark made sure that every HSC team member remained client-centric and brought significant value to each project. By 2011, Mark stepped into the CEO role and then evolved to Chairman of the Board in 2017.

James Viner assumed the role of President & CEO in 2017. Jim recognized the importance of fully serving our valued clients; therefore, he adjusted HSC’s services to equally focus on both large and small projects. While HSC’s portfolio of projects over $20 Million is impressive, Jim embraced all the small work which generated a significant volume in annual revenue. His goal was to make sure our staff completely understood each client’s vision and developed strategies to ensure successful outcomes, no matter what size the project.

Through this evolution, our underlying principles remain the same, to nurture trust and open communication. From this, HSC has developed many long-lasting, committed relationships, and has sustained growth with over $200 Million in revenue.
